Heavy Rains Lash Maharashtra, IMD Issues Red Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, warning of intense rain, thunderstorms, and winds up to 60 kmph. Mumbai recorded over 130 mm of rainfall in central areas, while eastern and western suburbs saw over 150 mm. In Palghar, Tansa logged 184 mm. Thane schools and colleges were closed as rivers risked overflowing. IndiGo warned passengers of flight delays due to waterlogging and traffic. Between August 15 and 19, 21 people died in rain-related incidents, while five remain missing in Nanded. NDRF and SDRF teams are on high alert.
